Shasta, Lassen, and Tahoe.
The trailhead at Castle Lake marks an easy and accessible point of entry into the Trinity Divide, a rugged section of the Klamath Mountains in Northern California. For as accessible as it is, the view from above Castle Lake, at the edge of Heart Lake, is stunning - expansive vistas of the lake below, Black Butte, Mount Shasta, and the surrounding valley. From here you can drift for days, vanishing into a secluded and often unappreciated wilderness, ambling along exposed mountain ridges, Shasta in your rear view. Or you can watch the sun set over the hills, the mountain glow in the waning light, and scurry down in the dark, hitting Shasta brewing in under an hour. Cheers! Happy wandering!
